Health and Human Services (HHS)
The aim is to promote and facilitate programs that support maintaining good health and eliminating chronic health disparities in communities of color through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources.
Black Family Wellness Expo at Light of the World (National Impact Day)
In March 2024 and 2025, the chapter had its annual Black Family Wellness Expo. The expo aims to reduce health and economic disparities and save and improve lives. Screening and testing are provided for breast and prostate cancer, high blood pressure, etc, which negatively impact(s) the health and quality of life for many. The expo also included fun and engaging activities for adults and children to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activities. Information booths with community resources, including banking, senior care, health care, housing, voting, and mental health resources, were showcased. All were welcome, and free food and giveaways were provided.
Breast Cancer Awareness
HHS collected new and gently used bras from our members and donated them to the Women's Resource Center for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2023 and 2024. Educational materials were provided to build awareness and knowledge about breast cancer prevention tips and how to conduct breast care self-exams. They also had a Bra Fitting event at Dillard’s UTC in 2024, and the proceeds from the party were donated to Susan G. Komen.
